Candace: Hi, I'm Candace and I'm from New York. And Id like to know more about the symptoms and treatments of carpal tunnel syndrome.Brian: Carpal tunnel syndrome is a problem that happens in your wrist and hands especially if you work on a computer or secretarial work, a lot of hand work. Candace, I dont know what your occupation is, but usually it is an occupational injury. It can also happens if you're doing a lot of hammering or working in the house. And what happens is you get numbness in these three fingers on either hand that's bothered by it. Sometimes you wake up in the morning going like this and you feel like your hands numb and that gets it better. And it happens because the nerves get trap right here on either hand, whichever is bothering you. And we treat it by using a wrist plate, by unloading it, by trying to alter what you're doing. Even a lot of housework can create it, but it can be a big problem. We want to get on it early so it doesnt permanently bother you.
