Brustein: Hi I am Dr. Brustein. Why is it so hard to walk by a bakery and resist those sweet treats inside just calling your name? This little donut is giving us an important clue why it's so hard to control our cravings. Researches saw brain dance while people were looking at pictures of donuts. First I haven't eaten for eight hours and again after they gorge it themselves on eight donuts, perhaps not surprisingly, their brains didn't show much of response after they had already devoured the donuts. But the scan showed that during their fast, part of the brain called a limbic system lit up and they saw the donut images. But researchers say, this response is the brain's way of focusing its attention on what it needs the most, in this case, food. So the next time you are going to be passing a donut shop and want to resist temptation, make sure your stomach is full hopefully with something a little less decanting. Making rounds, I am Dr. Brustein.
